Real Madrid remain intent on adding Ronaldo to their already star-studded squad this summer, and the Portuguese winger has made no secret of his desire to make the switch to Spain.
United are loath to let last season’s top-scorer leave, however, even though Sir Alex Ferguson has threatened to banish the 23-year-old to the reserves as punishment for his lack of loyalty.
Tevez, on the other hand, sympathises with the ex-Sporting Lisbon star’s position, having himself been targeted by los Merengues prior to joining the Red Devils from West Ham last year.
And the Argentine ace may also have strayed offside of Ferguson after suggesting Ronaldo should be allowed to leave Old Trafford if he so desires.
"It is clear he is a very important player for us but this is a personal decision, which is up to him only," Tevez said in The Guardian.
"I understand Cristiano. Every footballer wants to pay at Real Madrid. I also think that everyone wants to play for Manchester United but, if what he seeks is something else, that should be respected.
"I have not talked to him but, when these things happen, neither side feels good."
